The fifth-generation Regal measures 190.5 inches in overall length and 73.5 inches in width. This is shorter than the W-body by approximately 3 inches and substantially shorter than the Colonnade and downsized A-body cars that precede it. The fifth-generation Regal GS (2012 and later) shares the same body shell as the standard fifth-gen but with sport-tuned suspension that lowers ride height by approximately 0.4 inches. Regal TourX: A wagon variant measuring 190.1 inches in overall length — 0.4 inches shorter than the Sportback, but with a substantially different rear-body profile. The TourX roofline rises and holds height through the C-pillar before terminating in a near-vertical rear hatch, creating a squared-off D-pillar profile that is architecturally different from the Sportback's sloped rear. A Sportback cover applied to a TourX will bunch at the squared-off rear hatch area where the Sportback cover's sloped rear geometry does not match the TourX's upright tail. The TourX requires a cover patterned to its wagon body profile — not the Sportback pattern.

The Regal GS for model year 2018 uses the Sportback shell, so GS buyers in the sixth generation should specify Sportback.
