The BMW M2 has two US-market generations that do not share a cover. The F87 (2016–2021) is 175.0 inches long and 71.8 inches wide. The G87 (2023+) is 184.5 inches long and 74.4 inches wide — a 9.5-inch length difference that leaves a cover cut for the F87 short of the G87's rear bumper by nearly a foot. The M2 Competition and CS additionally carry a taller carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler than the base F87 M2, creating a rear deck geometry variable that a cover sized to base F87 dimensions will not accommodate without binding against the spoiler edge.

BMW Individual finishes — Zandvoort Blue, Le Mans Blue, Hockenheim Silver — carry multiple clear coat layers and color-match complexity that pushes clear coat respray costs to the high end of the $1,800–$3,500 repair range. Non-woven cover fabrics shed fiber particulates that generate swirl marks on dark metallic finishes like Sapphire Black Metallic on every removal cycle.

DaShield Ultimum is a multi-layer woven laminate with a soft woven inner face that does not shed fibers, specified to F87 and G87 generation dimensions with Competition/CS spoiler accommodation available. Designed in Buena Park, California.

Three priorities drove the Ultimum's design: lateral energy dispersion under point-load impact, all-weather outdoor durability for vehicles that park outside year-round, and a fit precise enough to maintain body contact during storm conditions.

The first priority — energy dispersion — is addressed by the multi-layer woven construction. Each woven layer adds a lateral force-transfer pathway. More pathways mean more of the hailstone's kinetic energy distributes across the fabric surface before reaching the panel below. The Ultimum does not carry a numbered layer count in its name because the construction is a continuous woven assembly, not a stack of discrete sheets. The architecture is the protection.

The second priority — outdoor durability — is addressed by the waterproof barrier integrated into the woven assembly and the UV-resistant yarn treatment. A cover that degrades in its first season of sun and rain exposure is not a permanent outdoor solution. The Ultimum carries a Lifetime warranty because the materials are rated for continuous outdoor exposure, not periodic use.

The third priority — fit — is addressed by vehicle-model-specific patterning. The Ultimum at $209 for car fitments is not a universal-fit cover. It is patterned to hood geometry, trunk profile, mirror dimensions, and rocker panel length for the specific vehicle. Fit determines whether the cover maintains surface contact during wind-driven hail. A cover that billows or gaps at the quarter panel has reduced the lateral dispersion mechanism at exactly the moment it matters.

These three properties are not independent. A cover that disperses energy but does not stay on the car during a storm has failed at the system level. The Ultimum is designed as a system.
