Why this vehicle needs the right cover
The Ford Model A's original nitrocellulose lacquer finish has no UV absorbers — every hour of unprotected sunlight works directly on the paint film, producing chalking and cracking that a qualified restoration specialist charges $8,000 to $25,000 to correct. The original chromium-plated hardware — radiator shell, headlamps, bumpers, windshield frame — is susceptible to moisture pitting that requires specialized replating at $3,000 to $8,000 per complete set. For a car that is now 93 to 96 years old, these are not hypothetical risks. They are the two most common and most expensive failure modes in the Model A preservation community.
DaShield's Ultimum is a multi-layer woven cover with a soft inner face and vapor-permeable inter-layer construction. The soft face contacts the lacquer surface without shedding abrasive particles during removal. The woven construction allows moisture vapor to escape rather than trapping humidity against the chrome hardware. AATCC 16 UV resistance reduces the UV transmission that lacquer cannot resist on its own.

Most car covers are designed around modern vehicles with urethane clearcoat, flush-body fender geometry, and UV-absorbing paint systems. The Ford Model A shares none of those properties. Its factory paint is nitrocellulose lacquer — a finish that chalks and cracks under UV exposure because it contains no UV absorbers. Its chrome hardware is original 1920s-era plating without the nickel sub-layer that gives modern automotive chrome its corrosion resistance. Its body has high separate pontoon fenders, running boards, and a pre-war silhouette that a modern cover pattern will not accommodate without tenting and tension at the wrong contact points.
DaShield's Ultimum addresses each of these vulnerabilities in sequence. The AATCC 16 UV-resistance rating reduces UV transmission to a lacquer surface that has no internal defense against solar radiation. The multi-layer woven inter-layer construction manages moisture vapor rather than trapping it against original chromium plating. The soft inner face does not shed particles onto lacquer during the removal cycle — a property that matters when the underlying finish cannot be polished back to its original depth if abraded. The pre-war body fit specification accounts for pontoon fenders and running board profile, so the cover drapes to the actual surface geometry rather than pulling taut at the fender edges.
For roadster, cabriolet, and phaeton body styles with the canvas soft top stowed, the Ultimum extends UV protection to the canvas as well, preventing the fading and thread degradation that leads to soft-top replacement costs.
