Why this vehicle needs the right cover
The Honda CRX was produced in two US-market generations with a 10.7-inch length difference between them. The first-generation EW chassis (1984–1987) measures 144.0 inches long and 63.0 inches wide. The second-generation EF chassis (1988–1991) measures 154.7 inches long and 65.9 inches wide. These are different cover patterns — not interchangeable.
The Del Sol (1992–1997), sometimes called the "CRX Del Sol" in early Honda marketing, is a separate model on a targa coupe body architecture. At 160.6 inches long, it is 5.9 inches longer than the EF CRX and shares no exterior body panels with it. A cover sized for the Del Sol will not fit a CRX correctly.
For the EF CRX specifically, the large rear hatch glass is the primary UV exposure point: UV radiation degrades the tint adhesive bond over time, and the plastic side sill cladding fades and becomes brittle without UV interception. The EF CRX (1988–1991) is now 33–35 years old and in active appreciation as a collector car.

Three priorities drove the Ultimum's design: lateral energy dispersion under point-load impact, all-weather outdoor durability for vehicles that park outside year-round, and a fit precise enough to maintain body contact during storm conditions.
The first priority — energy dispersion — is addressed by the multi-layer woven construction. Each woven layer adds a lateral force-transfer pathway. More pathways mean more of the hailstone's kinetic energy distributes across the fabric surface before reaching the panel below. The Ultimum does not carry a numbered layer count in its name because the construction is a continuous woven assembly, not a stack of discrete sheets. The architecture is the protection.
The second priority — outdoor durability — is addressed by the waterproof barrier integrated into the woven assembly and the UV-resistant yarn treatment. A cover that degrades in its first season of sun and rain exposure is not a permanent outdoor solution. The Ultimum carries a Lifetime warranty because the materials are rated for continuous outdoor exposure, not periodic use.
The third priority — fit — is addressed by vehicle-model-specific patterning. The Ultimum at $209 for car fitments is not a universal-fit cover. It is patterned to hood geometry, trunk profile, mirror dimensions, and rocker panel length for the specific vehicle. Fit determines whether the cover maintains surface contact during wind-driven hail. A cover that billows or gaps at the quarter panel has reduced the lateral dispersion mechanism at exactly the moment it matters.
These three properties are not independent. A cover that disperses energy but does not stay on the car during a storm has failed at the system level. The Ultimum is designed as a system.
