The Toyota Prius spans five generations and three distinct body configurations — the standard hatchback (XW10 through XW60), the Prius v wagon (2012–2017), and the Prius c subcompact (2012–2019) — each requiring a separate cover pattern. The 4th-generation XW50 (2016–2022) introduces a protection requirement no painted-panel argument addresses: the optional solar panel roof glass uses a laminated assembly with a PVB interlayer. By the time hazing becomes visible from the interior, the interlayer is compromised and replacement is the repair path. Solar roof glass replacement runs $1,500 to $3,000 or more.

All Prius generations carry a hybrid powertrain with battery management airflow routed through rear quarter panel vents. A non-breathable cover creates a thermal barrier against those openings during parked periods. Priority 1: Generation and body-variant specific pattern. The Prius XW10 is a three-box sedan; XW20 through XW60 are aerodynamic hatchbacks with meaningfully different dimensions across each generation. The XW30 (2010–2015) is wider and longer than the XW20 (2004–2009). The XW50 (2016–2022) is lower and longer than the XW30. The XW60 (2023+) runs a new platform with a longer wheelbase than all previous generations. The Prius v wagon is a distinct body from the standard hatchback: longer roofline, higher rear deck, different overall length. Priority 2: Solar glass UV protection for XW50 (2016–2022). The XW50's optional solar panel roof insert is a laminated glass assembly with a PVB interlayer. UV accelerates PVB photodegradation — a process internal to the laminate that progresses without visible surface indication until hazing or delamination becomes apparent. AATCC TM 16 testing validates that DaShield woven laminate outer construction provides sustained UV-blocking performance under outdoor exposure cycles. The Vanguard UHD at $199 (5-layer woven, 5-Year warranty) and Ultimum at $209 (multi-layer woven, Lifetime warranty) both attenuate UV before it reaches the glass surface. For XW50 owners, the choice between UHD and Ultimum is warranty term preference, not UV protection capability — both woven constructions interrupt the PVB degradation mechanism.

Priority 3: Hybrid vent breathability. The Prius battery management system routes airflow through rear quarter panel vents. Non-woven PP covers create a non-breathable barrier against those openings.
