The Volkswagen Super Beetle (Type 1 1302 and 1303, 1971–1980) is not the same vehicle as the standard Type 1 Beetle — and it does not fit the same cover. The 1302 introduced MacPherson strut front suspension that required a curved front hood profile, where the standard Beetle's flat hood sits level. The 1303 added 2.0 inches of body width, measuring 62.6 inches across versus the standard Beetle's 60.6 inches. A cover patterned for the standard Beetle will gather at the curved nose of a 1302 or fall 2.0 inches short of the rocker panels on a 1303. Neither outcome protects the vehicle it is supposed to cover.

DaShield engineers the Super Beetle cover to the specific body geometry of the 1302 and 1303 production runs. The Ultimum uses a multi-layer woven laminate with two-way breathability — water vapor escapes outward and liquid rain stays out — eliminating the condensation cycle that lifts and blisters the single-stage enamel found on most surviving Super Beetles. Designed in Buena Park, California, the Ultimum carries a Lifetime warranty. For Super Beetles stored fully indoors, the SoftTec Satin provides the smoothest possible contact surface for original or period-correct paint. Select by generation and storage type for protection that fits the vehicle you actually own.

For a compact, midsize, or full-size car parked outdoors in a humid or rainy climate, three engineering priorities define the correct cover selection.

First, two-directional moisture management. The breathable woven laminate blocks liquid water from entering while allowing water vapor to exit outward. This is the property that prevents the condensation cycle — moisture in the enclosed air depositing on cooler paint surfaces at night — from accumulating under the cover. Non-woven polypropylene and sealed PVC covers have low vapor transmission rates. They block rain and trap condensation equally. The woven construction resolves both directions as a single fabric design rather than a compromise between them.

Second, all-climate performance without humidity degradation. The Ultimum and Vanguard UHD are designed for continuous use in high-humidity, high-precipitation environments. Florida's five-month wet season, the Pacific Northwest's 150-plus annual precipitation days, and salt-air coastal exposure do not degrade the woven laminate's vapor transmission function. The cover maintains its breathable waterproof performance without a humidity ceiling.

Third, size-class fit for compact, midsize, and full-size cars. DaShield maps compact, midsize, and full-size passenger cars as separate sizing categories — windshield rake angle, roofline height, and trunk profile differ across the IIHS size classification range. The correct size class produces a cover that seats properly at the mirror and rocker anchor points without billowing in coastal wind conditions or pulling tight at the windshield.

Ultimum covers compact and midsize cars at $209.99, full-size at $219.99, with a Lifetime warranty. Vanguard UHD covers the same vehicle categories at $179.99 and $199.99 with a 5-Year warranty. Both use identical breathable woven laminate construction. Care for all woven outdoor covers: wipe-down with damp cloth only — machine washing degrades the laminate barrier and voids the warranty.
