The GMC C1500 is not a standard half-ton truck cover application. Every C1500 in existence is at least 25 years old — the last C1500 designation applied to the 1998 model year before GMC renamed the line Sierra 1500 — and the 1973–1987 squarebody generation has become one of the most actively traded collector truck platforms in the United States, with clean examples now reaching $30,000 or more. Four body configurations (Regular Cab and Extended Cab, each with short or long bed) produce four meaningfully different overall lengths, and the dimensional differences between the squarebody third generation and the aero-body fourth generation require generation-specific fit patterns.

Most generic truck covers are sized by a single "half-ton" category that treats the Regular Cab Short Bed and the Extended Cab Long Bed as the same vehicle. They are not. The Extended Cab Long Bed C1500 is significantly longer than the Regular Cab Short Bed, and a cover sized to the shorter configuration will pull taut across the tailgate on the longer one, creating contact pressure at the rear panel on every removal cycle.

DaShield specifies C1500 covers by both cab configuration and bed length, with separate patterns for the squarebody third generation (1973–1987) and the aero-body fourth generation (1988–1998). The squarebody's flat-roof profile and vertical fender geometry produce different drape geometry than the fourth generation's rounded body, and a cover patterned to one generation will show incorrect drape at the cab roof and rear quarter on the other.

For squarebody restorations, the cover specification stakes are higher than on a daily driver. Custom single-stage lacquer, period-correct two-tone Scottsdale paint schemes, and base-coat clear-coat respray work require a soft inner face at every panel contact point. Non-woven polypropylene cover fabrics shed abrasive particles onto the paint surface during removal.
