Every Chevrolet Avalanche on the road today is at minimum eleven years old. The Avalanche's defining feature — the Midgate fold-down rear cab wall — creates a direct installation constraint: the cover must be installed with the Midgate closed and latched. On Gen 1 Avalanches (2002–2006), factory plastic body cladding may still be in place, adding width at the fender arches that changes the fit profile relative to a de-clad or Gen 2 body. Both variables require confirmation before ordering.

Most truck covers are sized by length and cab configuration. The Chevrolet Avalanche is crew cab only with a single 5'3" bed length across all production years — that part is straightforward. What generic covers miss are the two variables that split the Avalanche population: the Gen 1 body cladding status and the Midgate installation sequence.

Gen 1 Avalanches (2002–2006) left the factory with plastic cladding panels on the lower body and fender arches. Many owners have removed that cladding over the years, either because it aged poorly or because they preferred the body-colored look. A cover sized to the de-clad profile fits the cladded truck with tension at the fender arch edge rather than draping past it. That edge contact — repeated across every installation cycle — generates sustained friction against a panel that is increasingly difficult to source as a replacement part. When cladding is intact, the fit specification must reflect the wider lower-body profile.

DaShield specifies Gen 1 fit to the cladding configuration the owner provides. Gen 2 fit (2007–2013) follows the cleaner GMT900 platform geometry without the cladding modifier — the same platform that underpins the 2007 Silverado, with tighter body tolerances and body-colored lower panels from the factory.

The Midgate constraint applies across all model years: cover installation requires the Midgate to be in its closed, latched position.
