The 1.0 inch width deficit shows up at the door mirrors and the widest point of the rear quarter panels, creating tension in the cover fabric that reduces drape quality and accelerates wear at the seams.

02Rear Wing Height — The Variable Most Cover Guides Ignore

A cover correctly patterned for a 2022 GR86 will fit a 2022 BRZ. The bodies are the same.

The complication is in retailer databases. The Toyota 86 badged for 2013–2016 carried no GR prefix in North American documentation. Some cover databases entered these as a separate make-model combination. A retailer cataloguing by Toyota 86 (2013–2016) and separately by Toyota GR86 (2017–2021) and separately by Subaru BRZ (2013–2021) may have patterned one or more of those entries from different source measurements, creating internal inconsistency in what should be a single shared dimension.

The practical risk: if you search by GR86 and the retailer's GR86 entry was patterned from a different source than their BRZ entry, you may receive a cover with slightly different interior clearance or seam placement than a cover ordered under the BRZ listing — even though the physical car is the same.

The safe approach is to order by BRZ make and model, confirm the generation year, and verify that the seller's pattern source explicitly accounts for the Subaru BRZ specification rather than the Toyota GR86 cross-reference.


04Why Parking Lots Are the Primary Damage Source for the BRZ

Standard passenger car door heights range from 36 to 48 inches at full swing. Truck and SUV door heights extend higher.
