Why this vehicle needs the right cover
The Subaru BRZ changed meaningfully between generations. The 1st-gen ZC6 (2013–2021) measures 166.7 inches long and 69.9 inches wide. The 2nd-gen ZD8 (2022+) is 1.2 inches longer and 1.0 inch wider — a gap that leaves the lower rear bumper exposed when a ZC6 cover is placed on a ZD8, and creates an excess-fabric fold at the rear of a ZD8 cover on a ZC6. The roofline height is unchanged at 51.6 inches, which makes the two generations look nearly identical until a cover is placed on them.
BRZ rear wing variants — ZC6 tS (2018), ZD8 Series.Yellow, and track-package configurations — add 1.5 to 2.0 inches of height above the trunk lid. A cover that does not account for this contacts the wing's leading edge under wind load, concentrating abrasion on painted wing surfaces.
The BRZ and Toyota GR86 share identical dimensions per generation. A correctly patterned GR86 cover will fit a BRZ. The risk is database inconsistency at some retailers, where the two cars are catalogued from different source measurements.
