Why this vehicle needs the right cover
The Chevrolet Chevy II ran from 1962 through 1967 before GM renamed it the Nova — a nameplate that continued through 1979 across two additional body generations. The three structural generations span 8.1 inches in overall length: the original 1962–67 Chevy II at 188 inches, the 1968–74 Nova at 189–189.4 inches, and the 1975–79 Nova X-body at 196.1 inches. That dimensional range, combined with body-style variation in the first two generations — sedan, coupe, convertible, and 2-door wagon in the 1962–67 series — means a single-size cover cannot fit the nameplate correctly. A cover mapped to a 1975 Nova X-body will have 8 inches of excess fabric at the front of a 1962 Chevy II.
The primary protection requirement for 1962–67 cars is breathability. Factory-specified nitrocellulose and acrylic lacquer finishes are porous — they exchange moisture with the atmosphere throughout their service life. A non-breathable cover traps humidity against the paint, causing blushing and micro-cracking in the lacquer matrix. A single humid season under a polyethylene cover can damage a lacquer finish that has survived sixty years intact. DaShield Ultimum uses a woven multi-layer laminate that passes moisture vapor outward while blocking liquid water, UV radiation, and particulate abrasion. Paint correction for moisture-damaged lacquer: $1,800–$3,500. Full repaint: $5,000–$15,000. DaShield Ultimum: $209.99. Designed in Buena Park, California.
Chevrolet Nova cover priorities
Engineered for the Chevrolet Nova
Three reasons DaShield Ultimum is the right cover for a Chevy II or Nova.
Breathable woven laminate for original lacquer and enamel. The factory paint on 1962–67 Chevy II cars — nitrocellulose and acrylic lacquer — requires airflow under the cover. Lacquer is porous and exchanges moisture with the surrounding atmosphere throughout its life. A non-breathable polyethylene or laminated-tarp cover seals that exchange and concentrates ambient humidity against the paint surface. The result is blushing: a milky discoloration in the lacquer matrix caused by suspended moisture. In humid storage environments, blushing appears within one season. Ultimum's woven outer layer passes moisture vapor outward while blocking liquid water — the fabric breathes in the direction the lacquer requires. For 1968–74 single-stage enamel, the same breathability prevents trapped-heat oxidation, which degrades enamel surfaces faster than open-air UV exposure when heat is concentrated under a sealed cover.
Semi-custom fitment by generation and body style. DaShield maps the 1962–67 Chevy II, 1968–74 Nova, and 1975–79 Nova X-body separately. Within the 1962–67 generation, the convertible and 2-door wagon receive distinct templates because the convertible's folded-top rear deck profile and the wagon's extended C-pillar roofline differ from the notchback sedan in ways that affect mirror-pocket placement, hem tension at the front valance, and rear seam position. A cover that does not account for these body-style differences produces gaps at the rear roofline, wind flap, and fabric pooling at the front fascia.
Lifetime warranty matched to long-term storage. A Chevy II or Nova in show-car or restoration service typically spends more time under a cover than on the road. Off-season garage storage runs four to six months in northern climates. Ultimum's Lifetime warranty covers the full storage scenario — the cover investment is not on a replacement cycle shorter than the vehicle's service life. Cost of moisture damage to original lacquer: $1,800–$3,500 for color sanding and re-clear; $5,000–$15,000 for full repaint.
